Amphur Mae Chan
Laan Tong Mekong Basin Cultural Park
A beautiful natural park where you can see the 6 grand nations performances, the biggest gong, historical performances, waterfalls and enjoy delicious dishes. Open Daily: 08.00 am - 06.00 pm. Amphur Mae Fah Luang

Doi Mae Salong
Located about 40 kilometres from Mae Chan, along Route 1089. It is a mountaintop settlement, known as Santi Khiri. This is home to descendants of Chinese Nationalist soldiers who fled to and settled in Thailand in 1940. There is a museum for KMT, where you can learn what happened after they got kicked out of China by Mao Tse Tung, going to Burma, kicked out from there and then into Thailand, where they helped the Thai government to fight against the Communists for many years.
Tea and Coffee plantations and fruit orchards provide scenic variety. The area is particularly picturesque in December and January when Thai cherry trees are in blossom. Accommodation, restaurants and opportunities for horse-riding and trekking are all possible in this area.

Doi Tung
This northernmost Thai mountain contains several scenic spots, including the Doi Tung Royal Villa, the Mae Fah Luang Botanical Garden. The Wat Phrathat Doi Tung on the mountaintop provides a spectacular view of the surrounding area and contains Buddha relics. There are various hilltribe villages settled on this mountain.


Amphur Mae Sai

Mae Sai
A border town in Chiang Rai Province, about 65km north of Chiang Rai. Mae Sai borders Myanmar/ Burma. Burmese goods, especially handicrafts and Jade, can be purchased at good prices. Thai, Burmese and foreign tourists can cross the border officially during daytime. Many Burmese people work in Mae Sai. The border river (Mae Khong) is about 30cm deep.

Khun Nam-Nang Non (Lagoon of the Sleeping Lady)
About 12 kilometres south from Mae Sai  you will see at once a natural rock formation in shape of a lady, reclining on her back, gazing forever at the clouds and stars as they slip by. This is the Sleeping Lady whose tale is one of heartbreak, despair and tragedy.

Tham Pum-Tham Pla (Reed & Fish Caverns)
Located 1 kilometre north of the Sleeping Lady Lagoon, and 1.8 kilometres from Highway #110, these caves are known for their spectacular interiors.

Tham Phayanak
Located within a few hundred metres from the Reed & Fish Caverns, this cave is regarded as being especially beautiful, thanks to its multi-coloured rocks.

Tham Pha Chom
Located 2.5 kilometres west of Mae Sai, this cave is noted for its beautiful stalactites and as a place of meditation.


Amphur Chiang Saen

Chiang Saen
This riverside town facing the Mae Khong River is 30 kilometres from Mae Chan via Highway #1016, predates Chiang Rai and is known as 'the ancient city'.

Chiang Saen National Museum
This little museum exhibits local objects and art, including Chiang Saen-style Buddha images and Lanna Thai artifacts. The museum is open on Wednesdays - Sundays from 9 am till 4 pm, except national holidays.

Wat Phra That Chedi Luang
This ancient 88-metre high brick pagoda, next to the museum, is the tallest religious monument in Chiang Rai.

Wat Pa Sak
Located outside the city walls, some 200 metres from the Tourist Service Centre, this deserted temple ruins, with ornamental stucco motifs, is regarded as being one of the most beautiful examples of Lanna architecture in northern Thailand.

Wat Phra That Chom Kitti
This hilltop temple has a pagoda containing a Buddha relic.

Wat Phra That Pha-Ngao
Located 4 kilometres along the Chiang Saen-Chiang Khong road. This temple hilltop pagoda offers a spectacular view at the Mae Khong River and Laos.

Chiang Saen Lake
South of Chiang Saen, along Highway #1016 (a 2-kilometre trip from the km.pole 27), you will find Chiang Saen Lake. This one square kilometre lake hosts migratory waterfowl during the winter months. Birds are seen at their best and most plentiful from November through February. Accommodation and watersports facilities are available.

The Golden Triangle 
The Golden Triangle is located 8 Kilometres north of Chiang Saen. A riverside area that marks the spot where the borders of Thailand , Myammar and Laos converge and where opium was once grown in abundance. Here you can find several other tourist attractions like The Opium Museum, The Opium Hall, Wat Phrathat doi Pukhao, long-tail boattrips etc.

Wat Phra That Doi Pu Khao
This riverside temple near the Sop Ruak Market, offers a spectacular view at the Golden Triangleํ.

Mae Khong River Trips
Different kinds of boats can be hired from Chaing Saen to travel upstream to the Golden Triangle, and downstream to Chiang Khong. The trip to the Golden Triangle takes some 30 minutes, the trip to Chiang Khong about 1 hour and 30 minutes depending on river currents and water levels.

Chiang Khong
Chiang Khong is located 53 kilometres east of Chiang Saen, (and 114 kilometres northeast of Chiang Rai City). This settlement faces Huai Sai/ Laos across the Mae Khong River. Local tour operators can arrange for tourists a visit to Laos .

Baan Haad Klai
Baan Haad Klai marks the Chiang Khong area, where the freshwater catfish or 'Pla Buk' in Thai can be seen. The fish can attaina  length of 2.5 metres and a weight of 300 kilogrammes. These fish are caught between April 18 and early June each year and are special to see.

Doi Pa Tang
Doi Pa Tang is located about 127 kilometres from Chiang Rai City, this scenic mountain location hosts Chinese, Hmong and Yao ethnic minorities. During January and February, the area is rendered even more picturesque thanks to cherry blossom and mountain mists.
 

Amphur Thoeng

Phu Chi Fah
This famous mountain and national park, 25 kilometres south of Doi Pa Tang and about 100kilometres from Chiang Rai City, provides the most beauiful scenic views at Laos and during February it's dotted with white wild flowers known as Dok Sieo.The mountains varies between 1200 and 1800 metres high.The highest spot is recorded as an observation point. The magical location is the highest plateau on a mountain-top, Phu Chi Fa rises high above the valley and offers spectacular views at the surrounding mountain peaks, valleys and the vast grassy plains that extend across the Laotian border. It is widely regarded as the best spot to enjoy the sunrise in Chiang Rai province and on most days you can see the sun rise above the mountain mist.
 

Amphur Phan

Doi Luang National Park
This is a forested park, about 65 kilometres south of Chiang Rai City. It covers an area of 1,170 square kilometres and extends into areas of Chiang Mai, Lampang and Phayao provinces. A major attraction is the Phu Kaeng Waterfall in Ampur Mae Cham.
